The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has completed station construction for communities along the Chicago to St. Louis corridor. Funded through the Federal Railroad Administration's (FRA) High-Speed Intercity Passenger Rail (HSIPR) program, the Chicago-St. Louis High Speed Rail project includes provisions for upgraded station facilities with improved passenger safety and convenience, better transportation connectivity, technology enhancements, and promoting economic development.
Joliet - The City received a discretionary grant from IDOT to construct a multi-modal facility and to make safety improvements at this station.
Dwight - NOW OPEN. A new station was built south of the current location on property owned by the Village. The station officially opened for service on October 28, 2016 and is located at 401 South Columbia Street, Dwight, Illinois. Learn more about the Dwight Amtrak Station.
Pontiac - NOW OPEN. A new station was built one block south of the old station on property owned by the City. The station officially opened for service in May 2017 and is located at 711 W. Water Street, Pontiac, Illinois. Learn more about the Amtrak Station.
Normal - NOW OPEN. A new multi-modal facility, funded outside of this project with a Transportation Investments Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant received by the Town, was opened in July 2012. The High-Speed Rail project funded a second platform and upgrades to the south auxiliary waiting room. Construction is complete and the new platform went into service in 2018. The auxiliary waiting room is used to support the second platform when needed.
Lincoln -NOW OPEN. A station has been completely renovated and reopened in December 2017. Learn about the railcar preservation effort at the Lincoln depot.
Springfield - Upgrades Complete. Improvements include access and parking lot improvements.
Carlinville - NOW OPEN. A new station located at 128 Alton Road opened in December 2017.
Alton - NOW OPEN. A new station and multi-modal facility was built northwest of the old station on property owned by the city located at 1 Golf Road. This station opened in September 2017.
